Crawl Space Dig Outs in Longview & Kelso

Some crawl spaces are too tight to work in or too low to reach every area. A dig out removes soil to create the room needed for repairs, drainage or future access. We'll tell you if it makes sense for your home.

  • Clearance and access assessed first
  • Soil removed to create working room where it's needed
  • Planned around footings, posts and your foundation

Common signs

When a crawl space dig out may be needed

  • Not enough room to work

Clearance is so low that inspections and repairs are difficult or impossible.

  • Areas you can't reach

Parts of the crawl space are blocked off by high or mounded soil.

  • Soil close to wood framing

Dirt piled up against or very near beams, joists or posts.

  • A repair that needs more room

Drainage, post replacement or other work that needs space to be done right.

  • Uneven, mounded ground

Leftover soil from construction that was never graded out.

How it helps

What a crawl space dig out involves

A dig out lowers or levels soil in some or all of a crawl space to create the clearance needed to work safely and do repairs properly. It's often done before installing drainage, replacing posts or making other improvements in tight areas.

Dig outs need careful planning. Soil near footings and foundation walls helps support them, so not every area can or should be dug out. We look at your crawl space first and only recommend digging where it makes sense and can be done properly.

  • Measure clearance and check access
  • Plan the dig around footings and supports
  • Remove soil to create working room
  • Leave the space ready for the next step

A dig out isn't right for every home

We won't recommend one if it isn't needed. It's about creating room to work and make repairs, not adding living space or value.

Questions

Crawl space dig out questions

What is a crawl space dig out?

It's removing or leveling soil in a crawl space to create more clearance, usually so inspections and repairs can be done properly.

How do I know if I need one?

If there isn't enough room to reach parts of the crawl space, soil is close to the wood framing, or a planned repair needs more space, a dig out may help. We'll tell you after we look.

Is it safe to dig near my foundation?

Digging too close to footings can undermine them, which is why we plan around them. We'll explain which areas can be dug out and which should be left alone.

Will a dig out turn my crawl space into living space?

No. A dig out creates working room and access. It isn't a conversion to living space, and we don't make claims about building code or property value.

Is a dig out usually part of a bigger project?

Often, yes. It's common before drainage, post and beam repairs or encapsulation in tight crawl spaces. We can quote it as part of the overall plan.

Do you serve my area?

Our service area includes Longview, Kelso, Castle Rock, Camas and Vancouver and surrounding Southwest Washington communities. Send your city or ZIP with the form and we'll confirm we can get to you.
